Family-Friendly Benefits
Balancing demands at work and at home can be a challenge. To provide you with additional support and resources, Assurant is introducing several family-friendly benefits and enhancements beginning Jan. 1, 2020. We know families come in all shapes and sizes. These new family-friendly benefits are designed to help you whether you’re welcoming a new member to your family or are currently taking care of loved ones and need a little extra help. After you’re employed with Assurant for 90 days, all benefits-eligible employees will be eligible for up to eight weeks of Pregnancy Leave, paid at 100%. (Applies to Pregnancy Leaves beginning after Jan. 1, 2020; any pregnancy or disability leaves that commence in 2019 will be subject to the 2019 Short-Term Disability plan design, even if the leave carries over into 2020.) Typically, Pregnancy Leave is 6 weeks for the birth of a child, though up to 8 weeks may be approved based on any complications. Click here for more information. 

After 90 days of employment, all benefits-eligible parents, whether due to birth, adoption or surrogacy, will be eligible to take four weeks of 100% paid parental leave to bond with their new child. You can take the time off in four consecutive weeks, or split the time and use it in two, 2-week increments. Parental leave must be taken within six months of the birth or placement of a child and is in addition to any pregnancy leave taken under the Short-Term Disability plan.

To support you in growing your family through adoption, Assurant will provide financial assistance of up to $6,000 per adopted child for qualifying adoptions. Submit your request for reimbursement under the Adoption Assistance benefit in MyHR powered by Workday within 90 days from the date the adoption is finalized. Your reimbursement will be paid to you through Assurant Payroll within one to two pay periods of receipt of your complete and approved request. 
Sometimes, your dependent’s regular day care falls through. Assurant has teamed up with Bright Horizons to provide back-up care when you’re in a bind. We’ll subsidize up to seven days per year for care of your dependent children or dependent adults through Bright Horizons’ national network of qualified facilities and caregivers. Bright Horizons also offers other family-friendly support programs such as discounts for test prep and college prep services.
