Accident Insurance

Accidents can happen anytime, anywhere, and likely when you least expect them. They can be costly and lead to extra expenses. Many people aren’t financially prepared to handle extra costs, such as plan deductibles, co-pays for emergency room care, testing, supplies and out-of-network care. Having this financial support may mean less worry for you and your family. Payments are paid directly to you, not to the hospitals or to other healthcare providers. You receive a check made payable to you. Accident Insurance may help you to focus more on your recovery and less on your finances.

Pays for over 150 different injuries, including:

  • Fractures
  • Dislocations
  • Eye injuries
  • Skin grafts
  • Broken teeth
  • Concussions
  • Cuts or lacerations
  • Second-and third-degree burns
  • Coma
  • Ruptured disc

Includes many medical services and treatments:

  • Ambulance
  • Emergency care
  • Inpatient surgery
  • Outpatient surgery
  • Medical testing benefits (including X-rays, MRIs, CT scans)
  • Physician follow-up visits
  • Transportation
  • Home modifications
  • Therapy services (including physical, occupational and speech therapy)

Critical Illness Insurance

Critical illnesses can happen when you least expect them — and they can be costly. Even good medical plans can leave you with big expenses. Plan deductibles, co-pays and costs for out-of-network care can add up fast. Critical Illness Insurance may help protect your finances by providing you with one lump-sum payment (when there is a verified diagnosis of a covered condition).

The cash can help you focus on getting back on track. Best of all, the payment is made directly to you, and is paid regardless of any other insurance you may have. It’s yours to spend however you need, including for your or your family’s everyday living expenses.

More than 30 critical conditions covered, including:

  • Cancer
  • Kidney failure
  • Heart attack
  • Major organ transplant
  • Stroke
  • Coronary artery bypass graft
  • Alzheimer’s disease

For greater security, you are covered if the medical condition (such as cancer, heart attack and stroke) should recur. There are no preexisting conditions for heart attack or stroke and no waiting periods between different covered conditions.

Health Screening Benefits

Health screenings are an important part of managing your health. That's why your Accident Insurance and Critical Illness Insurance coverage from MetLife provides a Health Screening Benefit (HSB) for covered screenings and tests. Now, everyone who's enrolled —you, your spouse, and dependent children—can earn a benefit just for taking care of his or her health.

For complete details, including covered screenings and tests, please see your insurance coverage certificate on the MyBenefits portal at metlife.com/mybenefits, or the MetLife Mobile App.

Please review the Accident and Critical Illness Insurance certificates of coverage and other documents under the "Resources" section of this page for specific information about these voluntary benefits or call MetLife directly at 1 800 GET-MET8 (1-800-438-6388).

Hospital Indemnity Insurance

A hospital stay can be costly. Plan deductibles, copays, and out-of-network costs can add up fast, not to mention costs outside of medical needs, like your mortgage, childcare expenses, transportation, and more. Hospital Indemnity Insurance can help with out-of-pocket costs while you’re in the hospital and recovering, reducing the financial impact as you heal.

You may want to consider enrolling in coverage if:

  • You are in the hospital due to childbirth
  • You have a chronic health condition
  • You have a family history of serious illnesses
  • You have a planned procedure or surgery
  • You're looking for additional financial reassurance and support
